Project Background

In August 2002, the Post-Conflict Fund allocated a grant of $210,000 to the World Bank's Nigeria Country Team for conflict analysis in Nigeria. The conflict assessment, management and reduction programme for Nigeria has had three central strands:
A. the completion of a Strategic Conflict Assessment (SCA) for Nigeria, assessing the dynamics of the conflict and providing a sound analytic basis for influencing;
B. the use of the SCA as background for project-level conflict assessments, in order to mitigate negative and increase positive influences that these projects may have on conflict dynamics;

C. additional assistance to the promotion of a design of a conflict-sensitive national PRSP.

Project Objectives The main objective was to evaluate whether the work proposed under the grant has achieved its purpose. This included not only the assessment of achievements against the individual grant components, but also of the broader strategy and programmes of the World Bank in-country, and influence on local conflict reduction mechanisms in Nigeria.
